The Winter Buce League is a 2009 event which started in mid 2009. The rules were the same as the 2009 Buce League except the O.B square was increased by 80cm and the limit of players per team on the field was limited from 5 to 4.

The 2009 Grand Final Winners, The Avalanches, have confirmed that they will be playing again in the Winter League. No changes have been made by the team, and it is still captained by Charlie Rogers.

The Sunflowers
The Sunflowers is essentially the 2009 Buce League's Sonic Force Buce Club, re-entered by Guy Bevan and under a different name. Guy Bevan has given Lewis Freeland the captaincy and is taking up a coaching role in the team while still playing. Toby Travalos has been dropped after heavy team restructuring to put their team in the best position after last league's result.
The Sunflowers consist of:

The Hawks
The Hawks have merged with The Gritz this league, after crucial player exports like Michael Read and Wilson Leung left both teams without sufficient numbers of regular players. Nick Allan is captaining the Hawks throughout the Winter League, and Michael Read will be temporarily playing one match when he returns to Newcastle after serving his jail sentence in Holland. A number of other ex-Hawks and rookies will be donning the Hawks colours towards the end of the Winter League as uni holidays kick off.

Team Blek is returning for the 2009 Winter League. co-captain Gus Bevan, who missed the 2009 Buce League, will be returning from his competition in the USA to play with his local team. Hamish Rogers will be captaining.

The Scourge
Led by controversial player Theo Rogers, the aptly named Scourge are a group of disgruntled junior players that hope to win the League in their first ever season. Of their outspoken catchphrases, their most common ones are "We are going to destroy the Avalanches" and "Evie will never make it into the Double Buce Club." The Scourge are the youngest team to ever enter a Buce league.

Novice Strike Force is a group of hopefuls that love the game of Buce and the social aspect of the competition. Led by Quad Team dropout and long-time fan Lachlon Willis, his team consists mainly of ex- Quad Team players, as well as SFBC dropout Toby Travalos. NSF aims to be the team for any players who are new to the game of Buce, and want to hone their skils.

The Toecutters
The seniors team, founded for this league and led by prominent ex-Blek player Keith Rogers, has high hopes for a future in Buce. Full of over-35 year old players, this team will rely on their teamwork and physical superiority to carry themselves to the top of the league.
