[edit] Gameplay

The game is played using a dance pad with 4 arrows. As an arrow reaches the top of the screen, the player must press the corresponding arrow on the pad, usually this is synced with the music. Players can choose from 3 different difficulty levels, and either solo or double play.

[edit] In Popular Culture

In the early 21st Century, around 2000-2002, a group of Korean players created the A-Team (see below), who invented the art of freestyle dancing on the DDR machine. Freestyle DDR involves the player(s) often dancing without looking at the screen, judging time based solely on the music. Advanced freestylers incorporate flashy dance moves into the routine, such as flips, jumps, and pad swapping with their partner. Thanks to this, asians have been commonly associated with the game, and are known to completely Pwn at it.

Charlie, despite being only 1/32nd Asian, is also a master at DDR, also constantly playing FlashFlashRevolution in his spare time. He also plays a series of games under the moniker DanceDanceRevolution. Chen, being full asian, is 32 times better than charlie at DDR, but is a step short of full asian domination of the game.
