[edit] Background

YouWiki was founded in November 2006 by User:Willemhenskens, User:Kingtang and User:Chengao under the name WillemWiki. It was originally made for their IST assignment, RocketPower. This is the reason for the numerous pages about Rocketeering and the category devoted to Rockets. Once this assignment was completed, however, the Wiki changed its name from WillemWiki to YouWiki, in order to create a more open and user-involved ethos.

YouWiki began to gain some popularity around March 2007, at which time Diesel, G-Force and The Hardcores entered the scene, bringing with them whacky antics such as the alterations of Evieman's userpage and Unicycle Gridiron. They are heroes.

[edit] So what exactly is a MediaWiki site?

MediaWiki is the company which designed the software which runs this site. It is also the engine behind Wikipedia and various other Wiki sites. Basically, a Wiki site is a place on the web where the user can edit and change pages as they wish. It allows for fast generation and updating of pages and the user can feel more involved in the site because of its interactivity. To make this site more interesting, all you need to do is edit and create pages.

[edit] Goals

  1. To provide a medium for people to freely share their interests with others
  2. To allow 1. to be done as quickly and easily as possible (hence the Wiki)
  3. To have fun!

Note: Funny/junk articles that are not related to YouWiki or user projects, but their comical value is worth keeping them are allowed to be made, as long as the tag {{junk}} is placed at the top or bottom of the page.

For help in keeping with these goals, see Help:Editing.
