[edit] Overview

Toribash is a turn-based combat game which functions are in the most raw essential form: you are required to coordinate punches, grabs and kicks by forcing the movement of the character's body joints. The game has won much acclaim and has received numerous awards for its originality. The game is in open beta, and the free demo allows players to play on restricted servers in multiplayer, while registered members get access to numerous modes and customization opportunities.

[edit] Gameplay

The joints of the player can either be contracted, held, relaxed or extended. This allows the player to create many different total body movements in one turn, and when used properly, can create realistic rag doll or humanistic effects.

The aim is essentially to deal as much damage to the other player as possible, or disqualify him by putting any part of his body on the ground (except the hands or feet, which don't disqualify). Enough pressure exhibited onto a joint can cause it to dismember. Dismembered limbs, if containing joints, can still be changed despite being broken off from the central control (presumably the brain).

Many different modes, or mods, are in the game, including the popular Judo, Taek Kyon, Wushu, Sambo, and even Sumo. Each of these has different variations to the game, be is a disqualification ring, match frame length, game length, or dismemberment level.

In Octoboer 2007, Toribash 3.0 was released and with it shaders which compeltely revolutionised the graphics of Toribash.

[edit] Toribash in Popular Culture

Toribash is the biggest thing since sliced bread. Many references to the game have been made, and feature in many movies, as well as Beatles songs. Many serial killers leave harrowing clues to their Toribash heritage, including dismembers limbs, customized head patterns on the victims, as well as the 'contract glutes' injoke among homosexual rapists and murderers. Many Toribash movies have been made and feature on Youtube. Among these are the highly regarded 'Toribash on Cocaine', 'Hyper Tori' and 'Red on White', the latter being made by the famous Chez.

[edit] Toribash Syndromes

Toribash, with its intense gameplay and such, has two mental disorders named after it, both disorders of which occur in hardcore Toribash players.

[edit] Toribash Syndrome

This syndrome is relative to a Toribash player's relation to the outside world, and is a disorder that makes, to the player with the syndrome, to see toribash actions used in real life by the people they see around them. For example, a normal person walking may, for a RT Syndrome victim, look like a figure contracting and extending knees, hips and glutes, as well as relaxing or contracting ankle muscles. This is similar to the syndrome occurring in Tetris veterans, where objects in real life resemble Tetris pieces and the victim tends to mentally portray the objects as such.
